Rooted in Watamu, shaped by community

Pwani Bora is a marine conservation organization based in Watamu on Kenya’s north coast. We work alongside communities, stakeholders, researchers, and partners to protect ocean ecosystems through local leadership, science, education, and practical action.

Who we are

The meaning of Pwani Bora

Pwani Bora means a better coast. Our name reflects both continuity and renewal: a living coast where healthy seas, strong communities, and shared stewardship belong together.

From sea turtle conservation and bycatch mitigation to education, research, and partnerships. We help turn local knowledge, coastal heritage, and shared responsibility into lasting conservation outcomes.

Our mission

Ocean Health is Community Wealth

We protect marine ecosystems by strengthening local stewardship, supporting sustainable livelihoods, and building partnerships that keep conservation practical, inclusive, and rooted in place.

Our approach brings together field monitoring, community outreach, science, and advocacy so that conservation benefits both biodiversity and the people who depend on the coast every day.

★★★★★

When conservation starts with community, people protect what they know, value, and depend on. That is how lasting change happens on the coast.
